Claude Monet, Regatta at Argenteuil (fresco)

Description

In 1871 Monet moved to Argenteuil, where he found himself with other Impressionist painters, such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley and Camille Pissarro. Again in the style of observation from life and "en plein air" painting, Monet depicts a sailing regatta on the Seine, near the village. The painter eliminates the color black, (it will be a peculiar feature of his style) and returns a luminous vision of the boats by combining horizontal strokes of pure color. This technique is even more evident in the reflections that are produced on the water, where the shapes of the sails, the verdant shore and the houses stand out vibrantly.
