1. The Enigma of Identity: Who truly is the "Gypsy Girl"? Contrary to the popular title, the work likely does not depict a real fortune teller. It is most probably a mysterious Madonna with Child, suggested by the small glimpse of blue garment (Mary's traditional colour) visible on the shoulder. This ambiguity between the sacred and the secular gives it a unique and modern appeal.
2. An Unknown Muse: The face is extraordinarily vivid and intense. Despite its small size (just 24x19 cm), the woman fixes us with such a penetrating gaze that it resembles a true portrait. Her features, carefully highlighted hair, and serene yet enigmatic pose make her an icon of Renaissance beauty and mystery.
3. The Bridge Between Two Worlds: This work is a masterpiece of stylistic fusion, created during Boccaccino's Venetian period. It reveals influences from the Ferrara school, the grace and attention to detail learned in Milan (where he is said to have studied under Leonardo), but above all, the luminous poetry and calm atmosphere typical of Giorgione and Giovanni Bellini. A true "bridge" between the Paduan and Lagoon Renaissance styles.
