Pinturicchio, Madonna and Child (option 2)

Description

In the work, the Child Jesus is depicted with curly and flowing hair - typical of Pinturicchio who in those years abandoned iconography with a pearl-edged bonnet derived from the example of the painter Fiorenzo di Lorenzo - while with his left hand he tenderly clings to a flap of his Mother's robe. The right hand, on the other hand, is in a blessing position towards the observer of the fresco, to whom Christ himself turns his gaze.  The frontal setting and solemn plasticism refer to the Tuscan example, filtered by Umbrian painters such as Perugino and Fiorenzo di Lorenzo himself. The dominant colors are blue, which represents transcendence and the divine, and red, at the same time the color of royalty and an omen of the Passion. A golden star stands out on Mary's mantle, a symbol of the woman who dresses herself in heaven.
